  1. Using Hairspray

This technique work effectively according different fabrics used to make the clothes. The following are some of the steps or guidelines to follow when using a hairspray to remove a stain from lipstick. These guidelines include:

Check the fabric

It is recommended to read the instruction on the fabric provided by the manufacturer before using the hair spray. Some fabrics when stained with lipstick could get worse after spraying with hairspray in the process of the removal.

Spray directly on the stain

It is advisable to use a formula hairspray and apply it directly on the stain. Leave it to stay for some time.

Use a clean cloth and warm water

Soak the clean washcloth in warm water. Squeeze the excess water and dab it over the stain as a result of lipstick. The washcloth made of cotton material has the ability of absorbing the dye from the cloth and making it clean.

Rinse the fabric

Identify the surface

Some of the common hard surfaces include; acrylic plastic, glass, porcelain dishes, stainless steel, vinyl, and more. You will require using a cloth, dish soap, and ammonia.

Get a wet washcloth

Use warm, sudsy water to wet the dish cloth. Wipe over the stain in small, circular motions. After 5-10 minutes, rinse well and wipe dry.


Add ammonia

Add a few drops of ammonia to the cloth if the stain of the lipstick does not disappear. Soak the cloth once again with sudsy water and scrub.

Rinse well and dry

  1. Removing Stains with a Cleaning Product

The process will involve the following steps and this will enable an individual to get rid of the stains on the carpets. The steps include:

  • Remove large pieces of lipstick

This step involves scrapping the large pieces of the lipsticks on the carpet by either use of a blunt knife or a spoon. Avoid pushing the pieces further in the carpet fabric.

  • Test a cleaning product on a corner of your carpet

How to Remove Lipstick out of dry Clean Clothes

Most lipsticks are made of ingredients that are difficult to remove when they get stuck in the carpet or any other fabric. It is said to be two in one; an oil stain, created by the waxy, emollient properties of lipstick, and a dye stain.


  • Dry Cleaning Solvent
  • Dry, clean white cloths

The following are some of the procedures on how to remove a lipstick stain from a dry clean only garment:

  1. It is recommended to read over the instructions regarding spot-treatment on the label on the fabric. If the item is safe for spot-treating, proceed with the following steps.
  2. Lay the fabric of the cloth flat on a stable surface of the table top. Place a dry, clean white cloth underneath the stained area.
  3. Gently scrape off as much solid lipstick as possible with a dull knife or credit card.
  4. Soak a dry, clean white cloth in dry cleaning solvent.
  5. Dab the stain with the dry cleaning solvent until it becomes lighter or disappears, checking the underside of the stained area to make sure the stain is disappearing completely, and is not simply transferring to the underside of the fabric.
  6. Take the item to the dry cleaner for cleaning, taking care to point out the stain for further treatment.

Removing Lipstick Stains from Colored Washable Clothing

  6. Rinse the garment in clear cold water.
  7. Rub the stain with liquid laundry detergent
  8. Add some amount of all-fabric bleach to a washer filled with warm water. Soak the garment solution. Make sure all the powder has dissolved in the water.
  9. Make sure all the stains have disappeared before washing the garments. In case there are still some traces of the stains, repeat step 7 again.

Removing Lipstick Stains from White Washable Clothing


  • Dry cleaning solvent
  • Liquid chlorine bleach
  • Liquid laundry detergent
  • Dry, clean white cloths

Ways on how to get rid of a lipstick stain from a white washable garment:

  1. Get some instructions on the label of the garment regarding spot-treatment.
  2. Place a dry, clean white cloth underneath the stained area after laying the garment flat on a stable surface.
  3. Use a credit card to scrape off the excess amount of stain from the cloth.
  4. Soak a dry, clean white cloth in dry cleaning solvent.
  5. Dab the area of the garment until all the oily substance has disappear
  6. Rinse the garment in clear cold water.
  7. Rub liquid laundry detergent on the stain.
  8. Put the cloth in the bleaching agent
  9. Soak the garment overnight
  10. Wash the garment the next morning and in case the traces of stain still remain, repeat step 7 again.

How to Remove Lipstick from Polyester

The following are some of the steps on how to remove lipstick from polyester:

Step 1

Use a plastic utensil such as spoon to scrape off the excess amount of the stain from the cloth. Soak the stained area in milk for at least 30 minutes. Wing the fabric out and wash it in the sink with warm soapy water.

Step 2

Spray the stain with hairspray and leave for some minutes to stay in the garment. Wipe the stain away with a soft clean cloth.

Step 3

Soak the stain in ammonia for 30 minutes and then launder as usual.

Step 4

Pour eucalyptus oil on a sponge and sponge the area free of the stain.

Step 5

Apply vinegar to a soft clean cloth and wipe the stain with it until it lifts. Launder the fabric as usual.
