In adults the rashes are triggered by heat and are characterized by red skin and itching sensation which is associated with small bumps that result to some changes in the skin texture. Heat rashes in adults may take four to five days to disappear.

In people prone to blocked sweat glands, the main signs of heat rash show up as soon as warmer or humid weather strikes. The main signs and symptoms are:

  • Little red blisters or bumps. They look like small pimples but are not present on the face; rather they are concentrated on the neck, upper back, stomach, elbows, under the breasts, diaper region in babies, on the groin etc.
  • Some people experience terrible itchiness in the areas surrounding the rash. Scratching the rash can lead to secondary skin infection owing to bacteria trapped underneath the nails. In some cases, this might require steroids or antibiotics for healing.

How to Get Rid of Heat Rash Quickly

  1. Ginger

Ginger has been used for medicinal purposes for centuries due its medicinal properties. It can also be used to get rid of a heat rash itching and stinging sensation caused by prickly heat.

To use ginger:

  • Grate some fresh ginger root and boil it in water. Let the water cool and then use a clean, soft washcloth to dab your skin with this solution.

  • Add ten drops of lavender essential oil to a bucket of warm water and then mix them well.

  • Take the pulp inside a refrigerator for 10 minutes then remove it

Baking soda has antibacterial properties that help in preventing infections at the affected area while soothing the skin. It also speeds up the healing process.

To use baking Soda:

  • Make a mild solution of baking soda with some cool water

To use camphor:

  • Take a mallet and crush the camphor into powder
  • Mix it with a few drops of neem oil in the powder to make a paste
  • Apply the paste on your skin and let it sit for 5-7 minutes
  • Rinse it off with water

  • Avoid tight fitting clothing as it prevents air circulation
  • When it is too hot staying indoors under a fan or in an air-conditioned room.

  • Choose to wear light and comfortable cotton clothing during summer seasons
  • Avoid applying on your body skin creams and lotions during summers, as they can block your pores and cause prickly heat
  • Wear loose clothing while sleeping and ensure your bedroom is well-ventilated during hot seasons.
  • Dusting the skin with anti-prickly heat powder
  • Use mild anti-microbial soap to reduce the number of germs blocking the sweat glands. This is one of the ways of reducing chances of developing prickly heat
  • Adults and young babies can keep skin cool with cool baths. The bathtub water may be enriched with colloidal oatmeal powder as this is a gentle cooling ingredient that also provides antimicrobial benefits.
